Welcome to Taieri Swim Club

Welcome to Taieri Swimming Club.

Taieri Swim Club operates at Mosgiel Community Pool.  Our lessons and squads run from September to the end of March.  We cater for learn to swim through to competitive squads.   Children must be 5 years and older.   Membership is limited by pool space and availability of coaches.  Currently the club has approximately 100 swimmers.  15% of our members are registered competitive swimmers.  More information can be found under About Us.

Thank you to all our volunteer coaches.  We could not operate without you.  All our coaches are qualified or working towards their qualification.

2017/18 Season Michelle Summers will be coaching squad, assisted by Courtland Ellis.

Squad sessions, Tuesday/Thursday 6-7pm and Saturdays 10.30-12noon. 

Junior Groups Wednesdays 6-7pm and Saturdays 9-10.30 (depending on which group you are).

Otago Champs (Dec 2/3, Moana Pool)

Taieri were the biggest of the Dunedin Club teams with 10 swimmers qualifying and attending this meet. It was a HOT Dunedin weekend at the pool.  A huge thank you to our parents, also, Steve, Susan, Alan and Kristin who helped out.  Much appreciated.

6 Gold, 4 Silver, 3 Bronze, 18 additioanl top 8 placings and 28 PBS!!!

Our 10year old trio of Finn, Lewis and Harrison collected a lot of pbs and medals.

   Finn 1st 100 br, 3rd 50 fr and 200 IM 4th 50 bk, 7th 100 fr.  Finn produced 2 pbs and his 200 IM was a 19 sec PB.  Awesome

   Lewis 2nd 100 br and 100 bk, 3rd 100 br, 4th 100 fr 5th 100 bk.  5pbs out of 6 swims! 

   Harrison swimming in his second big meet for Taieri this season was placed 2nd 50 br, 4th 100 br, 5th 50 fr, 6th 50 bk and 8th 100 fr.  Harrison got 100% PB's!

Our 10 and under girl duo of Hope and Keira produced some awesome PBs too.

   Keira was placed 7th in her 200 fr with an amazing 5 sec pb.

   Hope placed 4th in 50 bk, 100 br and 6th in her 200 br with a hige 8 sec pb.

In the 11year age group, Harry came home with 5 gold (50/100/200 fr, 50 fly and 200 IM and one silver (100 fly) and 2 pbs.

In the tough 12 year old age group our girls did us proud.

   Niamh: 4th 100 bk, 5th 50 bk and 200 bk, 8th 50 fr and four pbs

   Renee: 5th 100 fly and 6th 100 bk,  Renee also produced 3 amazing pbs

   Erin:  This was a tough meet for Erin as still sick, but was just outside her pbs, but was lead instigator in creating a Taieri Anthem I hear

   Jessie:  Jessie, having just had a birthday and coming into this age swam just outside her pbs and gained 5th in the 200 br

Well done to our fantastic relay team of Niamh, Renee, Finn and Harry who placed 5th in the IM and 8th in the free.  Well done Team Taieri.  Very proud of all of you.

Kiwi Challenge Meet (Moana Pool)

At this meet, we had 19 Taieri swimmers attend. Overall we had 55 PB's, ranging from 0.06 to a massive 13 seconds!!! For some swimmers, this was a meet to get some new times, and try out some different races, and some were competing for some qualifying times.

Awesome job to Harrison Thode who collected Junior Festival times in all of his races! In her first official meet, Evie Gilmour picked up two finalist ribbons, well done Evie! Congratulations to Kylie Gale, who recorded the biggest PB from a Taieri swimmer, taking off 13.86 seconds in her 50 Back!

Taieri swimmers took home heaps of medals: Golds  go to Hope Burke, 50 Back, Lewis Divers, 50 Back and 100 Back, Harry Summers, 100 Fly and 200 Back, Jordan Summers, 50 Free, 100 Free and 200 Free, and Finn Wilson, 100 Breast, 50 Free, 100 Free, 100 Breast and 100 IM! Silvers for Lewis Divers (2), Keira Hughes (3), Harry Summers (2), Jordan Summers (2), Finn Wilson (1), and Jemma Wilson (2). Niamh Burke took off almost 6 seconds in her 200 free, awesome effort! Joshua Kyle took home a finalist ribbon in the 9-10 years 50 Breast, great job! Jacob Struthers competed in 6 new races, getting 6 new times. Erin Willis took home 3 finalist ribbons for her swims in the 200 free, 50 fly, and 200 IM. Renee also took home 3 ribbons for 50 free, 100 fly, and 200 free. Way to go girls! Jessie Yee took of 3 seconds in her 200 back, earning her a bronze medal. Awesome job Jessie!

Also well done to Leila and Kael Hughes, who took home finalist ribbons in both of their events! Congratulations to Kristin WIllis, who did some huge PB's, taking off more than 10 seconds in her 100 back, and 8 seconds off her 100 fly! That's aweome!

Our A relay team managed second place in both the 200 Free and 200 medley relay. Both relays consisted of Erin Willis, Renee Willis, Niamh Burke and Harry Summers, and our B relay team consisting of Jessie Yee, Lewis Divers, Keira Hughes and Finn Wilson got 4th in the freestyle and 6th in the Medley.

Awesome job everyone, the Club is very proud of you. Thanks to all our parents who helped out and also the Steve and Susan working behind the scenes.

The 2018 Alexandra Challenge Cup meet will be held in Alexandra on Saturday 3 February. (This is the day before the Country Club Champs.) I have attached the meet flyer. You can complete entries on your MyPage. Susan needs to know by 8pm Friday 19 January 2018  if you wish her to put in your entries.. This meet is open to both club & competitive swimmers. There may be an opportunity to enter relay teams when I know who is going. All travel & accommodation costs are your responsibility.

Country Clubs 4th Feb Queenstown

The Country Club Champs is an annual inter-club meet between all Otago Clubs who are not based at Moana Pool. Susan needs to know by 8pm Sunday 21 January 2018 if you wish to enter.  All swimmers that have qualified have been informed. This is a Championship meet so all swimmers must be registered with SNZ as competitive swimmers. There is a fee of $94 payable to become a Competitive swimmer, but as everyone has paid $15 to be a club swimmer you just have to pay the difference ie $79 This is payable to the swimming club before Susan puts in entries & we pass it on to Swimming NZ.  If you are unsure please contact Susan.  The Swimming Club will pay all event entry fees for this meet. Susan will put in all entries, please do not do your entries through your MyPage
